Our History

Glen Eden Optometrist is by no means a new kid on the block, serving the Glen Eden community for over 40 years.

The practice was originally opened in 1979 by Margaret Raby, not long after the construction of the Glenmall shopping centre site in 1970.

Nigel Somerville joined the team in 1984 and has been a familiar face to many ever since, ultimately purchasing the practice in 2001.

In 2022, Glen Eden local Nikku Singh walked through the door, immediately keen to continue the practice's proud community-oriented legacy.

Nikku

Owner/Optometrist

Nikku graduated from the University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Optometry (Honours), and has since worked in independent and private eye hospital settings.

Although an all-rounded practitioner, with over 12 years of experience, his particular expertise includes eye health and specialty contact lens fittings. He is naturally adept at treating children, and is charmingly unable to say no to anyone who walks through the door seeking eye care assistance.

A proud local since 2020, Nikku and his partner have grown to love the Glen Eden area and its people. In Nikku's spare time he enjoys getting stuck into some DIY, beer brewing, hip hop dancing and spending plenty of time with their rescue dog Zora.

Erin

Optical Assistant

Erin is a Glen Eden local who has worked in the Optical Industry for over 25 years.

Erin is passionate about beautiful eyewear, and the happiness and confidence that a well-chosen frame can bring.

A mother of three, she also has a love for paediatric dispensing and helping little ones with their eyewear journey.

Erin's love of colour spreads beyond her work - into a natural affinity for all things crafty and creative.

Tracey

Tracey brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team, having been in the Optical Industry for most of her career.

Her specialty lies in making all customers feel welcome and finding the frame to fit a person's particular style and personality.

A West Auckland local, Tracey enjoys spending time with family, in particular her twin grandsons.

She is excited to be a part of the Glen Eden Optometrist team and get to know this special community.
